The Sheena Foundation, LTD, founded in 2001 is dedicated to the prevention of animal overpopulation through early intervention, spaying and neutering; the general welfare, sheltering and placement of animals; and education concerning the humane treatment of all living creatures. It was named in honor of Sheena, a Boston Terrier who lived a complete and long life. Sheena raised orphan animals and "Radar", an orange tabby cat, was her favorite. They lived together for 11 years. Sheena passed away on December 3, 2000, at the age of 15 1/2 years, leaving behind many animals and human friends. Sheena will always be missed and never, ever forgotten. She was a part of our family and we will love her forever. We all have a Sheena in the family. Thank you for caring.
Our Mission: We are dedicated to the general welfare, sheltering and placement of animals; prevention of animal overpopulation through early intervention; and education concerning humane treatment of all living creatures.
Our Vision: To be a leader in developing a community in which adoptable animals are no longer euthanized.
In 2007, the Board of Directors made the decision to concentrate our efforts primarily on feline welfare. Although the Magic Valley is a fast growing, newly urbanizing part of the country, it is still primarily agricultural in culture and tradition, and formal animal welfare programs frequently do not have structured feline welfare programs. Thus, little notice is taken of the problems of feral and free roaming cats, and citizens are just becoming generally aware of the importance of spaying and neutering in the quality of life for pets, and for the community.
As a private organization receiving no tax money and depending entirely on volunteers, we fund our work with donations, large and small; and with occasional small private grants. We are learning that it is to our advantage to grow slowly and to concentrate our efforts where we can achieve maximum results. Right now, it is the cats and kittens of the Magic Valley who need us the most.
